The single is accompanied by a heart-rending music video, trying together a themes first covered on his two previous singles form the record, ‘ONE LOVER leaves’ and ‘they walked past a work of art’.

Reflecting on the album's inspiration, O'Dowd shares, "This album is about the breakdown of a relationship. I tried to not censor or second guess myself in any way during the writing process. Because of this, I feel certain truths are embedded in the songs. I'm still discovering exactly what a lot of them mean, but I know the album is honest and every line is true. That's the most important part for me."

As the lead single, 'Game Of Love' introduces one of the album's overarching themes - the exploration of the destructive and complex nature of love. Despite the difficult subject matter, the track carries a sense of hope, perfectly setting the tone for the introspective journey that 'One Lover Leaves' promises to deliver.
